Royal School in Transylvania has a number of special projects, run annually, where our students leave the school premises and go on field trips to learn about various essential aspects of everyday life. The ecological project carried out on Via Transilvanica is one of them, the aim being to create awareness and highlight the importance of protecting the environment.
Our students from Year 6, Year 7 and Year 10 were divided into two groups, coordinated by a number of our teachers. The first group formed by Year 6, 7 and 9 went to Alba county, between Ciugud and Berghin. The second group, Year 8R and 8S and Year 10R, took another path on Via Transilvanica between Cusma and Dorolea. The students, under the careful supervision of the teachers, cleaned up the waste found on Via Transilvanica. At the same time, they enjoyed the splendid scenery with their friends.
Eliza Neagu, our Year 8 student, shared some of her thoughts on the action carried out by our school, in which she took part:
“We went on a trip to help clean trash from a short section of the Via Transilvanica. We wanted to help clean the trail that unites the beauty of nature with the heritage of Romania so people who came and wanted to visit could enjoy the beautiful and calm landscapes of Romania without being bothered by trash. We started by each of us getting a trash bag. The bag was either grey, green or yellow. We had green for glass, yellow for plastic and metal and grey for everything else. Unfortunately the paper found in forests is either wet or dirty so it cannot be recycled. We also got a pair of gloves each so we would not directly touch the trash.
Overall, we chose a small section of the trail to clean and we went on a hike cleaning the trail in the process. I think it was a good opportunity to help people while also having fun with our friends.”
We thank Eliza for her thoughts on the experience and congratulate all participants for their efforts and promoting a clean environment!
